The method involves determining group voltages (U1, U2, U5) in cell groups (17) provided with series connected cells (15) e.g. lithium ion cells and lithium polymer cells. The cell groups are checked whether each cell of the group exhibits permissible cell voltage (UZ) depending on the group voltages. Difference between the group voltages and average group voltage of the determined or detected group voltages is computed. The permissible cell voltage is laid in the cells when the difference value is smaller than a predetermined maximum value. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for cell measurement in a rechargeable battery pack.
