The machine has a brake element (12) connected with load which is moved over a belt along a guide rail (2) at brake rail (3), which comprises several clamping elements (26a,26b) with clamping portions. The clamping portions are made to frictional contact the brake rail during braking. The ends of the belt are connected with respective clamping elements over respective pull tabs (14). The clamping elements are tensioned in an open state through the belt.
