The device has a unit in order to bring a subject acoustic sequence in the form of certain words and animal- or everyday sounds in different levels for acknowledgment. An amplifier arrangement is formed for amplifying the acoustic sequences. Acoustic outputs (14,15,16) are provided to allow a representation of the sequence by airline, free field speakers or bone conduction receiver for one or both ears. An independent claim is also included for a method for frequency technical detection of hearing loss and objective determination of hearing threshold level in a portable unit.
