Apparatus comprises a casting melt tank (10) exhibiting a cavity (14) for receiving molten metal (12), and a stirring bar (16) with a tip (20) that protrudes at least partially and deeply into the cavity filled with the molten metal, such that at least the tip is immersed in the molten metal, where at least the tip of the stirring bar exhibits a metallic material that is sparingly soluble in the molten metal. An independent claim is also included for treating the molten metal comprising using the above apparatus.
