The method involves assigning expansion valves (242, 245, 246) to fractions of a cooling medium, and maintaining regulating variables using actuating variables on reference values. A load of a compressor unit (250), overheating of the medium at an inlet of the compressor unit and pressure of the medium before and after the compressor unit or flow rates of high-compressed highly volatile cooling medium fraction and hydrocarbon-rich flow i.e. natural gas flow (1), are provided as the regulating variables. Temperature of the hydrocarbon-rich flow is adjusted according to a cooling step. An independent claim is also included for a system for liquidation of hydrocarbon-rich flow i.e. natural gas flow, comprising a regulating circuit.
