The device has a detecting unit (15) i.e. power sensor, for detecting an electrical parameter, which is based on an operating condition of an end device (12) e.g. lamp. An evaluating unit (16) evaluates the detected electrical parameter. The evaluating unit detects a person activity based on course of the electrical parameter of the end device and produces a status signal. The detecting and evaluating units are arranged in a common device body (10). The device body is designed as an adapter, which is arranged between the end device and a power network connection (11) i.e. socket. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for monitoring a person activity (2) an emergency detection system.
