A communication network system has a host network and low-ranking networks that are connected to the host network via respective exchange connections. Connections that have the exchange connections in the host network carry out communication based on FlexRay. FlexRay defines a static segment and a dynamic segment for each communication period. Communication zones are permanently assigned to the respective connections in each static segment. Communication zones are assigned changeable to the respective connections in each dynamic segment. Connections of any low-level network carry out communication based on a LIN or CAN protocol. The exchange ports connect a transmission line of the host network during the transmission period of each dynamic segment with transmission lines of the low-order networks, so that each connection of each low-order network communication based on the LIN or CAN protocol without any protocol conversion over the high-order network with the connections of other low-level networks.
