Providing chlorine for chemical reaction comprises producing chlorine by gas-phase oxidation of hydrogen chloride with oxygen in catalyst containing reaction zone, followed by cooling product and separating e.g. unreacted hydrogen chloride
Providing chlorine for chemical reaction comprises: (i) continuously producing chlorine by gas-phase oxidation of hydrogen chloride with oxygen in a catalyst containing reaction zone to obtain a crude gaseous reaction product-P1 containing chlorine, water and a portion of unreacted hydrogen chloride and unreacted oxygen; (ii) cooling the reaction product-P1, and partially to completely separating the unreacted hydrogen chloride and water to obtain a water and hydrogen chloride depleted product gas stream-P2; and (iii) supplying the gas stream-P2 for a chemical reaction of chlorine. Providing chlorine for chemical reaction comprises: (i) continuously producing chlorine by gas-phase oxidation of hydrogen chloride with oxygen in a catalyst containing reaction zone to obtain a crude gaseous reaction product-P1 containing chlorine, water and a portion of unreacted hydrogen chloride and unreacted oxygen; (ii) cooling the reaction product-P1 in one or more steps, and partially to completely separating the unreacted hydrogen chloride and water to obtain a water and hydrogen chloride depleted product gas stream-P2; and (iii) supplying the gas stream-P2 either (a) without further purification steps or (b) directly after drying to reduce the water content, for a chemical reaction of chlorine, where in step (i) a molar ratio of total hydrogen chloride to be oxidized to total oxygen used as oxidizing agent of 4:1-8:1 is observed, and the molar ratio of unreacted oxygen to chlorine in P1 and P2 is less than 0.05:1.
