The sensor device (11) detects different neutral positions (6-9) of a gearbox (10). The sensor device stays in connection with an automatic restart system (14) of a motor car, so that start-up of a starter device (15) is prevented by the automatic restart system if gears (1, 2, R) are engaged from neutral positions (7, 8) actually detected in the sensor device of the gearbox without alteration of the neutral positions. Rotational torque of the starter device of the motor car is sufficient to move the motor car.
