The method involves generating three dimensional data to an embossing object in a data processing system by vector-based processing of three dimensional data. The two-dimensional image data is modified by annexation of depth information or a three-dimensional scanner. The three-dimensional data is transformed into gray-scale value of snapped image data. The height of the embossing object is assigned to the gray-scale values in the data processing system. An independent claim is also included for a device for modeling objects to be shaped and manufacturing an embossing tool in form of a roller, a tube or a portion of a roller or of a tube.
