Producing biogas with a methane content of at least 80 vol.%, comprises converting a percolate by methanogenic microorganisms into biogas, where the reaction is carried out in a reactor operating under excess pressure, and the excess pressure is at least partially produced by the gas production of the methanogenic microorganisms. An independent claim is also included for a reactor for carrying out a pressure methanogenesis of a percolate, where the reactor is arranged such that it is operated at a pressure of 2-100 bars.
