The reactor has fuel elements or fuel rods and control rods hung as a fuse made from melting material and affixed through one or many intermediate pieces. The intermediate pieces are connected to the fuel elements/fuel rods and the control rods in a thermally conductive manner. The material of the fuse melts at temperature below melting temperature i.e. 50 degree, of fuel or the fuel rods, and above the maximum permitted operating temperature of the fuel elements or fuel rods. A tubular shaped radiation shielding cavity is formed under each fuel element or fuel rod.
