The method involves attaching a milking cup (1) of a milking device to an artificial teat, and applying operating vacuum required for milking process. A value of teat-ended vacuum in the milking device is determined at various milking flows under operating conditions of vacuum and pulse cycle during milking process, where the pulse cycle required for a milking cycle is adjusted. The teat-ended vacuum prevailing in a milk hose (3) is changed by a vacuum control valve (5) such that the teat-ended vacuum is adjusted with respect to a reference value during milking process. An independent claim is also included for a kit for milking an animal.
