The device (102) has a stiffening element (108) movably arranged at a cross beam (104) of a vehicle (100) between two positions. The stiffening element produces rigidities of the cross beam in the positions and adjusts the rigidities of the cross beam. An actuator (110) e.g. eddy current actuator, moves the stiffening element between the positions. The actuator comprises a resetting element i.e. return spring, which acts against force produced by the actuator. The stiffening element comprises a square and double T-shaped cross-section changing along displacement direction. An independent claim is also included for a method for changing rigidity of a cross beam of a vehicle.
