The method involves closing honeycomb openings at honeycomb structure surfaces e.g. upper and lower honeycomb structure surfaces, by fixing a film (30) e.g. plastic or metal film, to the honeycomb structure surfaces. A honeycomb structure (12) is held at a support surface (34) of a processing station by suction of the film, where the support surface of the processing station is provided with vacuum openings (32). The honeycomb structure and the honeycomb structure surfaces turned away from the support surface are processed in a material removal manner.
