Selectable mass flywheel for power train of motor vehicle, has locking mechanism which brings masses during engine start into engagement to lock masses so as to minimize vibrations and pulsations in drive train during engine start
The flywheel has first mass connected to crankshaft of an engine, while the second mass is connected to a clutch engaged to transmit torque from the engine to a gearbox. Two masses are connected by a spring and damper assembly rotationally coupled to each other. The flywheel assembly includes a locking mechanism which brings the two masses during starting of the engine into engagement to lock the two masses with each other so as to minimize the vibrations and pulsations in the drive train during starting of engine.
