Cosmetic composition comprises Pyrocystis noctilucaextract, in combination with a carrier. An independent claim is included for a process for preparing the extract, comprising: culturing of Pyrocystis noctilucain a medium to obtain a cell suspension and recovering the cell suspension; preparing a paste of algae comprising at least 250 million cells per ml concentration; (if necessary) centrifugation of the cell suspension and recovering the algae paste, optionally breakdown of algae paste by shock or hyperbaric ultrasound to obtain exploded algae paste; and contacting the obtained algae paste (optionally exploded) with a solvent, preferably hydroalcoholic or hydroglycolic solvent, to obtain a sample of final concentration of 1-100 million cells per ml.
