Cosmetic active ingredient (I) comprises peptides having a molecular weight of less than 2000 Da from Verbena officinalis. Independent claims are included for: (1) process for obtaining (I) comprising: solubilization of powder of aerial parts of Verbena officinalisin water; enzymatic hydrolysis in the presence of at least one enzyme; separation of soluble and insoluble phases by decantation; inactivation by heat treatment; filtration; concentration of the active fraction; and sterilization filtration; and (2) cosmetic composition for topical application, comprising (I) (0.01-20 wt.%). ACTIVITY : Dermatological. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Alpha 2 beta 1 integrin synthesis stimulator; Collagen I synthesis stimulator; Collagen III synthesis stimulator; Fibrillin-1 synthesis stimulator. The ability of (I) to stimulate collagen I synthesis was tested in normal human fibroblast. The result showed that the collagen I synthesis was 2091 pg/mu g protein at 2%.
