The device has an oxygen sensor located in an exhaust pipe (11) of combustion gas to deliver a rough richness signal to an electronic control unit (14). The control unit includes a calculating module (15) for calculating richness difference between the rough richness signal and a filtered richness signal. A defect determination module (16) determines defect of richness of fuel injectors according to the richness difference on each cylinder. The module includes an integration block receiving a value of a high break even point counter, to integrate the richness difference on each cylinder. An independent claim is also included for a method for detection of dysfunction of fuel injectors in an internal combustion engine.
