The container has an upper wall with a waste inlet opening, and a movable lid movably mounted on the upper wall between a closing position and an opening position in which the lid provides free access to the opening. An actuation element (30) is movable between the positions such that a locking system holds the lid in the closed position when the actuation element is in one of the positions. The locking system holds the lid in the opening position when the actuation element is in the other position. Restoring elements i.e. springs (56, 60), restore the actuation element in the former position.
