The method involves determining existence of a mesh (102) for a finite element numerical model for each of numerical models in CAD of mechanical components, and automatically generating a numerical model grid (106) if no mesh is determined. Mechanical properties of a material constituting the mesh are automatically assigned (114) to each of the numerical models from a database of the respective constituent material of each of the mechanical components. An independent claim is also included for a simulation method by finite element calculation.
