The method involves acquiring three-dimensional two-photon excitation fluorescence (2PEF) signals and a second harmonic generation (SHG) signal of fibrillar collagen in a sample of skin (13) by performing multiphoton microscopy. Information indicative of the distribution and/or the amount of fibrillar collagen in the skin is generated based on the acquired three-dimensional 2PEF fluorescence signals and the SHG signal, where the information is generated in a form of image.
