The device has a catheter (20) including a tube (23) having a cylindrical opening (24) along a central axis (25), where the opening allows a stent (10) to slide when it is folded. A retaining ring (30) is arranged to be slidable within the opening. A blind hole (32) is formed in the ring, so that an inlet opening (33) of the blind hole is located at an end face of the ring facing distal end (22) of the catheter, where the blind hole receives a portion of distal end (11) of the stent. A translating unit (40) translates, in reciprocating movement, the ring in the opening.
