PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a very pure precursor of VPOcomponent inexpensively, the method capable of limiting the quantity of carbon.SOLUTION: The method comprises: a mixing step for wet-mixing, vanadium pentoxide and a phosphate compound as raw materials, and a carbon material as an additive by using a mixed solvent which includes water and alcohol having 4 or less carbon atoms; and a calcination step for calcinating the mixture obtained in the mixing step to generate VPOby a solid-phase reaction. The blending ratio of the water in the mixed solvent is within a range of 2 to 9 mole based on the vanadium pentoxide. Since the vanadium pentoxide as a raw material can be almost completely eliminated in the mixing step, the amount of impurities produced after the calcination can be reduced significantly.
