PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prescription of catechins or polyphenols for preventing onset of prostate cancer and for alleviating the symptoms of prostate hypertrophy.SOLUTION: A preparation is provided which is proven to be efficacious in the chemical prevention of prostate cancer in a clinical pilot study when administered in adequate systemic dosage without the aid of other conventional drugs or remedies and without adverse effects in a group of subjects at risk of development of the illness. The preparation is proven to be efficacious in alleviating the symptoms of benign prostate hypertrophy and especially the difficulty of urination when administered in adequate dosage systemically without the aid of other drugs or conventional remedies and without adverse effects in the subject.
