PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which has a structurally simple style and is improved to accurately measure a fiber bundle.;SOLUTION: The apparatus confirms the mass and/or mass variation of a fiber material such as at least one fiber sliver or fiber web of, for instance, cotton or synthetic fiber in a preprocessing machine for spinning such as a flat card, a roller card, a drawing frame and a fine carding machine. The fiber material is mechanically scanned with a contact element, and the displacement of the contact element is converted to an electric signal. The position of the contact element is detected by a non-contact distance sensor (proximity sensor).
