In the coherent optical receiver, on the transmission side, a polarization multiplexed optical signal obtained by placing the first signal on the first polarized light and the second signal on the second polarized light is subjected to polarization separation, and the first signal is separated. Since the second signal cannot be received in association with the transmission side, the coherent optical receiver of the present invention includes a coherent light receiving unit that performs coherent optical detection, and a signal processing unit that performs signal processing determined by a control coefficient. The coherent light receiving unit receives the first polarized light modulated by the first transmission signal, outputs the first detection signal, and outputs the first polarized light and the second polarized light modulated by the second transmission signal. The first polarized light is simultaneously received and a second detection signal is output, and the signal processing unit determines a first control coefficient based on the first detection signal, and the first control coefficient and the second detection signal are determined.
