PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress overshoot or jaggy which is likely to be generated in the neighborhood of the edge of an image or in a region whose gradient is large. PSOLUTION: A pixel interpolation device for converting an image into a predetermined resolution includes: a first pixel interpolation processing means configured to calculate an interpolation pixel value by high order interpolation calculation using the pixel values of interpolation processing reference pixels and a distance between the interpolation processing reference pixels and interpolation pixels; a second pixel interpolation processing means configured to calculate an interpolation pixel value by performing weighted interpolation using the pixel values and edge gradient of the interpolation processing reference pixels and the distance between the interpolation processing reference pixels and the interpolation pixels; an overshoot generation area detection part configured to detect an area where overshoot is generated in the image; and an interpolation pixel selection means configured to determine the interpolation processing by the first pixel interpolation processing means or the second pixel interpolation processing means according to the result of the overshoot generation area detection part.
