PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stimuli-responsive polymer which dissolves in an organic solvent at a low temperature to form a transparent solution and undergoes phase separation when the temperature rises, and a method for producing the stimuli-responsive polymer.;SOLUTION: The stimuli-responsive polymer is a polyethylvinyl ether derivative wherein an 1-alkylimidazolium group or a 4-alkylpyridinium group is bound to position 2 of an ethyl group in the polyethylvinyl ether and, in particular, is the polyethylvinyl ether derivative having a ratio of weight average molecular weight to number average molecular weight of ≤1.25. The method for producing the polyethylvinyl ether comprises living cationic polymerization of a 2-halogenoethylvinyl ether.
