The invention relates to a measuring device and a test gas research method using infrared absorption spectroscopy. The measuring device has a measuring chamber (2) with the test gas to be studied, a laser (1), which is placed relative to the measuring chamber (2) in such a way that the light emitted by the laser penetrates the measuring chamber (2), a detecting device (61), which detects the laser radiated (1) and light penetrating the measuring chamber (2), and a result processing unit (8) that analyzes the signals generated by the detecting device (61) with respect to the light absorption that occurred in the measuring chamber (2). It is provided that the laser (1) is a laser with narrow-band radiation, the width of the spectral line of which is less than or equal to the width of the measured line of the infrared absorption spectrum of the probe gas, the laser (1) is made and tuned so that the laser frequency varies periodically within a certain region of the spectrum, moreover, the laser frequency and its variation are selected so that at least one measured line of the infrared absorption spectrum of the probe gas is in a certain region of the spectrum, and the detecting the device (61) is made and configured in such a way that it captures the light emitted by the laser (1) and penetrating the measuring chamber (2) with a time resolution so that it is possible with a frequency resolution to determine the absorption of light within a certain region of the spectrum, and the detecting one device (61) performs a separate measurement by absorption within 10 s or faster.
