The merchant receipt data and EFTPOS transaction data generated at the point of sale are transmitted electronically to at least one remote location for storage. Upon receiving a request from a customer or authorized third party, the merchant receipt data is identified using the EFTPOS transaction data as transmitted therewith, such that a re-creation of the original paper receipt including merchant receipt data and EFTPOS transaction data, as was produced by the merchant at the time of the transaction is made available to the customer or authorized third party in an electronic format.
