A method for determining viability of zoosporangia of the potato canker pathogen Synchytrium endobioticum (Schilb.) Perc. comprises drying soil, pounding by a rubber pounder, sieving through sieves of , , and 0.03 mm, centrifuging in a 48.5 % solution of sodium iodide of a specific weight of 1.4 at 3000 rpm, revealing viable zoosporangia. Staining of summer and winter zoosporangia of the pathogen is carried out with a 0.5 % solution of Coomassie Blue, allowing determining the viable zoosporangia of the pathogen.
