PURPOSE: A method for detecting and compensating a backlight frame and an apparatus using the same are provided to prevent a compensation error followed by a detection error by accurately detecting a backlight frame.;CONSTITUTION: An apparatus receives data about current frame including pixels comprising of a luminance component or at least one chroma component(810). Based on values about at least one chroma component included in the received data, the apparatus determines whether the current frame is a backlight frame or not(820).
