PURPOSE: A method for providing a shortcut function in a locking screen and a portable terminal using the same are provided to output the locking screen and supply the shortcut function in the locking screen displaying determined state information on a preset position of the locking screen.;CONSTITUTION: An input unit(130) senses input. A verifying unit(114) verifies whether the input sensed in the input unit requests preset operation for determined state information. If the sensed input requests the preset operation for the determined state information according to the verification result of the verifying unit, an unlock executing unit(115) releases a locking state of a terminal.
