PURPOSE: A disease resistance-related gene, Capsicum annuum mildew resistance locus O2 (CaMLO2), is provided to be used as a genetic material for efficient and effective molecular growth of a plant with defense reaction and disease resistance from pathogen. CONSTITUTION: An isolated gene, CaMLO2, encodes a protein with an amino acid sequence of sequence number 2. The isolated gene has a base sequence of sequence number 1. An isolated protein, CaMLO2, has an amino acid sequence of sequence number 2. A recombinant vector contains the gene. A plant is transformed by the recombinant vector. A method for searching resistance to diseases or chemicals in a plant comprises the step of isolating mRNA from a plant body and identifying differential expression of the gene.
