A process is provided for producing styrene monomers by oxidative dehydrogenation of EB using CO 2 as a mild oxidant. Carbon dioxide is used as the reaction diluent in one or more dehydrogenation reactors and to supply the heat necessary for the endothermic reaction from EB to styrene monomer. In the dehydrogenation reactor, two parallel reactions for styrene monomer formation take place simultaneously: (1) direct EB dehydrogenation to styrene monomer by catalyst using heat provided by the carbon dioxide, and (2) styrene monomer Oxidative dehydrogenation of EB using carbon dioxide to form
