PURPOSE: A payment system performing contactless payment with an NFC card and a method thereof are provided to grant a contactless payment function to a contact-only payment terminal by using a card reader and a communication card which are cheaper units. CONSTITUTION: A card reader(120) is connected with a terminal(110) and a communication card(130) is installed on the card reader and obtains information through contactless communication to deliver the information to the terminal through the card reader. The terminal performs contact communication but does not perform contactless communication. A contact IC card is installed on the card reader. The communication card has the same size as the contact IC card to be installed on the card reader. The communication card includes authentication information and delivers the authentication information to an external device through contactless communication.
