The organometallic complexes are provided for as olefin metathesis catalysts. Complex is a Group VIII transition having the structure of formula (I) has a cationic substituent metal carbene ; & . Formula I & ; formula , M is a Group VIII transition metal; L ¹ and L ² is a neutral electron donor ligand ; X ¹ and X ² and an anionic ligands ; m is 0 or 1; n is 0 or 1; R ¹ , W, Y, and Z are as defined herein. Synthesis of complexes also provided , a method of using the complex in an olefin metathesis catalyst is also provided .
