PURPOSE: A thermal stratification method for preventing the knocking in a direct injection gasoline engine is provided to prevent the output of an engine from decreasing due to abnormal combustion. CONSTITUTION: A thermal stratification method for preventing the knocking in a direct injection gasoline engine comprises following steps. One or more swirl adjusting valve is formed to supply a swirl to exhaust gas when the exhaust gas flows backward into a combustion chamber(6) through a exhaust port(11). The flow of the exhaust gas is changed into a gas flow with the swirl by passing through the swirl adjusting valve, and the exhaust gas flows into the upper part of the combustion camber so that the temperature of the gas increases. The exhaust gas flows backward through an open exhaust port in a state where an intake port(10) and an intake valve(12) are closed.
