The mechanism has disks arranged to be partially visible in an opening of a dial (16) and partially masked by the dial. One of the disks carries a moon representation, and is pulled by a drive finger and teeth at a speed so as to display moon phases. Another disk is pulled by a kinematic chain formed of twenty four-hour drive wheels at another speed so as to display a periodic indication. The disks are placed on an upper level relative to each other in reference to a display zone, and are partially transparent or perforated so as to provide moon phases visible in the opening of the dial.
