The method involves applying asphalt concrete and/or mastic asphalt with predetermined layer thickness (S) of preferably 7 to 12 cm on a substrate. The asphalt concrete and/or the mastic asphalt are compressed with degree of compression of about 102 percent of Marshall density and the predetermined layer thickness by a heatable compression tool and/or a crushed sand- and/or fine gravel on the compression tool. Uncompressed asphalt concrete and/or mastic asphalt are provided with voids content at Marshall Specimen from 4.0 to 5.5 percent by volume. An independent claim is also included for an asphalt covering layer.
