Catalyst (1) with a catalyst support arranged in a cladding tube (5), is new, where the catalyst support is from at least one honeycomb body (6, 7) having many flow direction (2) of the exhaust gas extending channels (8, 9) with which the exhaust gas flow is fed; the honeycomb body at the inlet (3) of the catalyst exhibits a convex or concave formed inlet side (11) with inlet openings into the channel (8), which are formed for absorbing portions of exhaust gas flow; and the inlet side of the honeycomb body reaches the inlet of the catalyst in the transverse flow direction. An independent claim is included for the preparation of the catalyst.
