The rail vehicle (1) has a rail car body (5) which is coated with an insulating layer. The insulating layer reduces the heat entry into the rail car body during fire condition. The insulating layer is arranged on the inner and outer side of the rail car body so that a fire protection barrier is provided within the rail car body and on the outer side. An undue deformation of the rail car body is avoided. The insulating layer is arranged in an area of the rail car body, which faces a traction unit of the rail vehicle. The rail car body consists of aluminum.
