The method involves acquiring several rotational X-ray images (20-24) of an examination region such as head of to-be-examined object such as patient. A two-dimensional rotational registration of respective X-ray image is performed, and three similarity values between rotational X-ray images (20-22) and X-ray image (25) are determined. The largest similarity value among several similarity values is determined. A projection image is calculated from three-dimensional volume data set relative to selected angular position to perform superposition of X-ray image (25) with projected image. The rotational X-ray images are calibrated and a three-dimensional volume data set of the examination area of the to-be-examined object is reconstructed. An X-ray image (25) of the examination zone of to-be-examined object is acquired. The radiographic image within the range between minimum and maximum angular position is captured. An independent claim is included for apparatus for superimposing X-ray image.
