The method involves measuring a vectorial measured variable (U) by a sensor, and calibrating a sensitivity parameter (S) and an offset parameter (O) of the sensor related to direction based on the measured variable. A measured variable component of the measured variable is measured for each of three sensor axes of the sensor. A measured variable angle between the measured variable and each of the sensor axes is determined. An acceleration vector is estimated from the measured variable using the sensitivity parameter and offset parameter. An independent claim is also included for a sensor.
