The method involves irradiating a form of a fiber optic perfluorinated polymer fiber (1) with coherent light, such that periodic variation of refractive index is produced in the longitudinal direction of the polymer fiber. The polymer fiber is made of polyperfluorobutenylvinylether and/or single-mode polymer fiber or multi-mode polymer fiber. The refractive index of fiber core to visible light is about 1356. An independent claim is included for an optical waveguide with fiber grating.
