The method involves arranging a valve in vicinity of the measuring surface. A heating element (5b) is coupled thermally to the measuring surface and is supplied with required voltage. A thermally isolated temperature sensor (5a) measures the temperature of the heating element. The measured temperature of the heating element and ambient temperature are compared to determine whether the water, snow or ice containing medium exists in measuring surface. An independent claim is included for a device for detecting water, snow or ice containing medium in measuring surface.
