The self-priming pump (10) has an impeller (12) and a cutting unit (16). A pump chamber (24) is provided in the flow direction in front of the cutting unit. An inlet opening (26) is offset upwards or formed relative to a shaft portion (14). The cutting unit has a cutting plate (18) with a through hole, and has a rotating cutting blade (20) mounted in a cantilevered manner on the cutting plate. A two-part pump housing (32) is provided, where the pump chamber is formed in the former housing-part (34) made of plastic, and the latter housing-part (36) is arranged to drive the pump.
