The method involves performing management of rotational speed of a water turbine by adjusting torque of an electrical generator based on preset torque/rotation speed curves (10.1, 10.2) for the water turbine. Cyclic exchange between the torque/rotation speed curves is performed over a preset time interval. Power unit outputs produced at an electrical generator are separately summed for the respective torque/rotation speed curves. Adaptive tracking of the torque/rotation speed curves is performed based on the summed power unit outputs. An independent claim is also included for a control device.
