The spring damping device (3) has an air spring (7) for transmitting a spring force (11) between a body (13) and a wheel (15) of a motor vehicle (1). A hydraulic actuator (19) is provided for transmitting a hydraulic throw force (21) between the body and the wheel of the motor vehicle. A hydraulic energy source (23) is provided for providing a hydraulic auxiliary energy (25) that is required for the hydraulic throw force. The air spring has an actively controlled variable and effective air volume (27), a support air chamber (31) for transmitting the spring force. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for controlling a spring damping device of a motor vehicle; and (2) a motor vehicle with a software for executing a controlling method for spring damping device.
